I decided I would do laundry. While every one is either still asleep or in class, I happened to be the only person who was clever enough to do this. I used all of the washing machines so that I could do everything at once.. though it is a little costly to do laundry, $1.25 for washers and $1.00 for dryers, it's worth it I guess. Just thought i'd share.

FIRST DAY!!

Okay so this is my residence hall. I actually live on the Horn side, but they are mirror images, and this side was more easily accesed at the time of the picture. The one thing about Tech that amazes me are the buildings. They are so pretty. They are all unique.. except there are a few that are very ugly, I'm taking it that they were built in the 70's as they have that appeal.

But today was my first day of official college. The community college was so much different from an actual University. I loved it. I know its weird to say this, but the noises were amazing. Most kids were wearing their iPods on their ways to class, but I figured I wouldn't. I was too focused on trying to not look like a freshman. But on my way to my 8 o'clock class everyone was out walking around looking for their classes, talking to people they havn't seen all summer, and I loved just observing this. I went to my first class which was AMAZING. I always saw on movies and such that classes that were held in lecture halls were huge, and they actually are. I had about 120 students in my first class. This blew me away. I also loved my first proffessor. He was really funny, and he's a cute old bald guy who loves cracking jokes about his baldness. :) I scheduled my classes just right, and was able to have 2 hours off in between classes. The building ^ (with the steeple) is my English building. I have both my English and my Psychology classes here. My Psychology teacher is actually a grad student who is very scatterbrained, hyper, and always gets off topic; but she seems interesting enough for my attention span to remain long enough to try and sort out whatever point she is trying to get across. I had English two hours after that, and my English teacher is very nice and probably only about 27. She actually reminds me of Casey. But she seems to run a tight class, with many extraneous assignments. This will be good for me because I always love a challenge with English classes.

Over all my first day was great. And I'm very excited about what will happen tomorrow. I have a computer class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I only have to go to a "Mandatory Meeting" for the class tomorrow. The rest of the semester the class does not actually meet and I can finish the class in my own room.

RANDOM FACT:

Texas Tech University, has more art work displayed on campus than any other campus in the United States. I took some pictures of my two favorite "art pieces". I wanted to share them. (By the way, some of the art work on campus is actually very inappropriate, if you actually look closely. But I chose appropriate ones for here.)

This is the "Hands of Knowledge". It is a water fountain in the shape of hands holding the alphabet.

And this is "The Book Man". He is made out of "stacked books" though it is all metal. Very cool! Although, at night if you are walking, he can be sort of scary.

i got tagged :)

I was recently tagged by my friend, Liz , to share 6 random things about myself. Here are the tagging rules:
1. Post the rules on your blog
2. Write 6 random things about yourself
3. Tag 6 people at the end of your post
4. If you're tagged, DO IT and pass on the tag

My random facts.. (that you all don't already know?)

1. about 4 years ago now, i peirced my own ear... it never got infected.. and my ear didn't fall off. i still wear the earing till this day.

2. when i was in elementary school, i was the teachers pet.. through every grade. the kids used to make fun of me. i just liked to help out the teachers, i can't help that i was there favorite student.

3. my grandma makes a chocolate cake, that everyone in my family seems to love, but i don't really like it.. i just pretend. i'd rather have a boxed chocolate cake, or her home made strawberry cake.

4. i still watch cartoons when i can. boomerang (shows old cartoons, like tom and jerry) is my favorite channel.

5. i love reading books. if they are interesting that is. i read the entire twilight saga by stephanie meyer. those are the best books i have ever read. even better than harry potter. there are four books total and they are each about 500-700 pages long. i read the first three within one week. i don't remember going to school or anything, just reading. i just recently got the fourth book because i had to wait for it to come out. i read it within 2 days. the movie for the first book comes out on like november 21st or something. but i don't think i'm going to see it because my perception of the characters are much much different than the ones in the movie. if you want to see the trailer go to www.thetwilightmovie.com it seems pretty good, but the books are a million and one times better.. i own all four if you would like to borrow them. :)

6. my favorite vegatable is spinach. i'll eat anything that has it in it or just plain. i don't care if it is cooked or fresh either.

now i'm supposed to tag 6 people, but unfortunatly, i don't have anyone to tag...

strange adventures... :/

so here's something new for everyone...

try shaving your legs in a shower that is probably 2x3 feet... not soo easy. especially when the shaving cream washes off before you can get to it... oh and when you wake up excpecting to take a shower and one, all the showers are full, or two, the lady is cleaning them for hours.

I had to go use another bathroom on the floor today because mine was being cleaned... i walked through the whole dorm (i'm sorry residence halls, i was already yelled at because of this) with my towel on.. i don't own a robe. i guess i should invest in one.

but other than all of that nonsence, i am having alot of fun. i have made one really good friend named tiffany, and yes she has a car. she is from eden texas. she is exactly like one of my good friends from sugar land, so i feel right at home!

:)

weather

The weather in Lubbock is amazing... hands down. There are still a few people that are moving in today, but not as many. I was awake until 12 a.m. because the girl on the floor above me was moving furniture, dropping furniture, and stomping on the floor. thats what you get for having someone live above you I guess.

It's getting easier to find friends... but it seems everyone is rushing so they don't have much time on their hands. Especially the kids from my highschool. Not only are they rushing 24/7, they also ALL live in Stangel, which is a residence hall that is a 15 minute walk away from mine.

The dining halls and the student union building are closed until tomorrow, so finding something to eat that isn't in a vending machine is kinda hard. There are food places accross the street from my dorm, but I'm not a big street crosser, and I don't want to spend ALL my money on food, when I have a meal plan for places at Texas Tech.

The walls of my room are a little bare and I can't seem to find things to put on them, with out breaking a rule. No thumb tacks, no nails, no holes in the wall of any sort... so i'm kinda stuck without having things to put on the wall.

I have been keeping my dorm room open, so I don't feel so shut out from everyone else... it is a little weird though, I'm right accross from the bathroom and so I hear every toilet flush.. :/

I bought some rain boots yesterday, because it floods sooo bad. Friday night around 3 we had a huge thunder storm and it was thundering so loud and woke everyone up and then the power went out for three hours... which turned the AC off. It got very hot in the room. But yesterday when we went to Target, there were places along the road where there were no ditches, but there would be 2 feet of standing water. I've never seen a place flood like that from just one storm.

first day

So, I just moved in to my dorm at Texas Tech University. According to the other students it is the biggest and the best, because of the movable furniture, large closets, and I guess, the extra floor space...

I will be living in my room for a little less than a week before my room mate moves in. I have never met her. We have however been talking through email. i hope that we get along and that our styles don't clash too much.

We got to Lubbock yesterday at like noon to move me in before 5. It was very hard to leave all my family and adjust to living so oddly from what I'm used too. I will for one, be sharing a bathroom with about 20 other girls, and two, I will also have to share three washing machines with even more girls.

Last night was very hard for me because I wasn't sure that this was what i wanted to do. The reality had set in and I was the one that chose to go so far from home. This was my biggest struggle.

But by today I had already made about 10 new friends, and 1 friend I already knew from high school. He was very helpful, and made me feel more at home.

So my room is cute, and not as small as it seemed at first, but it may be different when my room mate actually moves in.

Well that's all I can write for now, so I guess I'll post tomorrow!

[By the way Casey and Morgan, I made this for you :) miss you guys so much!]
